Employment Assistance

The following private organizations have employment assistance programs:

The  District of Columbia offers employment assistance and workforce development through several programs that benefit the GLBT community.

The DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) fosters economic development and growth in the District of Columbia by providing workforce development services, linking employers with qualified job seekers, compensating eligible unemployed and injured workers, and promoting safe and healthy workplaces.

One-Stop Career Center System

DOES’ primary objective is to keep District residents working and local businesses thriving. Job seekers and employers can access useful employment-related services through: 

  • A 38-foot, handicapped accessible Mobile One-Stop van, equipped with 10 state-of-the-art computers and workstations, an instructor’s terminal, a plasma screen TV and telecommunications gear that travels to neighborhoods throughout the city providing our clients access to employment-related services, including case management support with job searches.
  • The District’s DCNetworks Career System, a comprehensive and integrated technological system that, among other things, allows employers and job seekers to post and respond to job vacancies, respectively, without staff intervention or assistance and at their convenience.
  • Two full-service and four satellite One-Stop Career Centers, strategically located throughout the District and providing job seekers and employers access to all employment-related services, including:
    • Job search and placement assistance
    • Career Counseling
    • Vocational Assessment/Planning, including Adult Basic Education
    • Job & Apprenticeship Opportunity Fairs and Recruitments
    • Access to Labor Market Information/Statistics
    • Occupational Skills Training
    • Unemployment Compensation/Claims Filing
