(Washington, DC) - The Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs will host representatives from Metropolitan Police Department’s LGBT Liaison Unit, WMATA Police, DC Office of Victims Services and Justice Grants, Casa Ruby, HIPS and the DC Center to answer the public safety concerns of the LGBTQ community.
In 2015, more than 50% of all reported hate-bias crimes were committed against victims based on their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Nationally, transgender people are at increased risk of DC victimization and violent crimes. In 2015, there was a 33% decrease in crimes targeting transgender individuals in the District of Columbia.
